Spin Doctors Single Releases
last update 2022-10-18
This is a list of all official single releases – this list is based on my own collection and on some facts I was told by folks such as Mark M or David Landsberger. Most definitely, there are additional single CDs that are not mentioned here. If you own one of these, please let me know the track listing, the catalogue number and, if possible, a scan and I’ll add it to this list.
You might miss some songs that were released as a single (such as “The Bigger I Laugh” or “How Could You Want Him”) – well, these were only promotional singles shipped to the radio stations and no official releases, so you will find them in the “Promos/Demos” section of the site.
Nice Talking To Me (Enhanced CD single)
October 2005; Ruffnation Music
1. Nice Talking To Me 3:58
A CD single sent out to US radio stations – as with the CKTH CD single, it does not say “for promotional use only”, so it can be considered a “regular” single release. It wasn’t available in any stores, though. The enhanced part of the CD includes the “Nice Talking To Spin Doctors”-featurette which is available on the DVD part of the NTTM-album.
Can't Kick The Habit (mp3 1-track single / CD single)
June 13, 2005; Ruffnation Music; free mp3 download from official site
1. Can’t Kick The Habit (Single Edit) 4:40
This is the first single from Spin Doctors’ fifth studio release, “Nice Talking To Me”, (Ruffnation Music). The single edit, which features a shortened, fade-out version of the full “Can’t Kick The Habit” recording, is available as a free download at the band’s official website. The single edit was also released as a CD single – which was sent out to US radio stations. It does not say “for promotional use only”, so it can be considered a “regular” single release. It wasn’t available in stores, though.
She Used To Be Mine (CD 3-track European single)
Epic, 1996, Cat# 663074 2
1 She Used To Be Mine
2 Marcy Of The Air
3 Miss America
This is the only single release from “You’ve Got To Believe In Something”. “Miss America” was recorded during the YGTBIS sessions, but as promotion for Howard Stern’s book of the same title. “Marcy Of The Air” is another b-side from that days with a nice little story – check the “Songs” section of the FAQ soon for more information on this one.
There’s another version of that single which was made for the US market. This one includes “Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong” (the PFOK version), but comes without “Marcy”.
Mary Jane (CD 3-track European single)
Epic, 1994, Cat# 660940 2 (4-track European single)

4-track European single:
1 Mary Jane
2 Woodstock
3 You Let Your Heart Go Too Fast (live)
4 Cleopatra’s Cat (live)
Besides the great rendition of Joni Mitchells “Woodstock” (the band recorded this one in a studio before playing the 1994 25th Woodstock anniversary show), this single includes 2 live tracks from the Glastonbury festival on June 24th, 1994. on “Cleopatra’s Cat”, Arnie Lawrence joins the band for a saxophone solo.
3-track US single:

3 Hungry Hamed’s
“Hungry Hamed’s” is exactly the same version as on the TIUD album.

“Piece Of Glass” is an outtake from the TIUD sessions, “Can’t explain” is a cover from “The Who”, also recorded during the TIUD sessions. The 2-track version has YLYHGTF and “Piece Of Glass”.
Cleopatra's Cat (CD 3-track single)
Epic, 1994, Cat# 660419 2
1 Cleopatra’s Cat
2 Uranium Century
3 Stop Breaking Down (live)
“Stop Breaking Down” is recorded live in the studio; a Robert Johnson cover. There’s another version of that single including “Have You Ever Seen The Rain” as track 4. But I never got my hands on this one…
Cleopatra's Cat (7inch 2-track picture disc)
Epic, 1994
A-Side: Cleopatra’s Cat
B-Side: Uranium Century
Vinyl version of the Cleopatra’s Cat single. It’s a picture disc with the single’s artwort printed on the record.
Cleopatra's Cat (CD 2-track single)
Epic, 1994, Cat# 660419 1
1 Cleopatra’s Cat (Single Edit)
2 Uranium Century
Have You Ever Seen The Rain? (CD 4-track single)
Epic, 1993, Cat# 660205 2
1 Have You Ever Seen The Rain?
What Time Is It? (live) (Recorded in NYC)
2 Jimmy Olsen’s Blues (live) (Recorded in Chicago)
3 Two Princes (live) (Recorded in Toronto)
This is the single release of Spin Doctors’ contribution to the “Philadelphia: Music From The Motion Picture” album. The live versions are from various sources, I believe WTII is the “Homebelly Groove” version. “Two Princes” was recorded in Toronto and fades out when the band segues into “More Than She Knows”. There’s a cd bootleg of that Toronto show floating around, by the way.
What Time Is It? (CD single)
Epic, 1993, Cat# 659955 2
1 What Time Is It (Single Version) 3:53
2 What Time Is It? (Live) 5:19
3 Two Princes (Live) 4:27
4 Forty Or Fifty (Live) 5:28
The WTII? live version was taken from “Homebelly Groove”, tracks 3 and 4: “broadcast live on Jakki Brambles BBC Radio 1 Show, 8 October, 1993, released by arrangement with BBC Enterprises Ltd.”
What Time Is It? (CD 2-track single)
Epic, 1993, Cat# 659955 1
1 What Time Is It (Single Version) 3:53
2 What Time Is It? (Live) 5:19
The WTII? live version was taken from “Homebelly Groove”.
Jimmy Olsen's Blues (CD 3-track single)
Epic, 1993, Cat# 659180 2
1 Jimmy Olsen’s Blues
2 Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong
3 At This Hour
According to the single’s liner notes, “Little Miss” was taken from “Homebelly Groove … Live” and “At This Hour” from “Up For Grabs”.
Jimmy Olsen's Blues (CD 2-track single)
Epic, 1993, Cat# 659180 1
1 Jimmy Olsen’s Blues
2 Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong
According to the single’s liner notes, “Little Miss” was taken from “Homebelly Groove … Live”.
Little Miss Can't Be Wrong (CD single)
Epic, 1992, Cat# 658489 2
1 Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong
2 What Time Is It (live)
3 Freeway Of Plains (live) (sic!)
This single includes the PFOK version of “Little Miss” and two interesting b-sides: a great “What Time Is It” live at the Lone Star Roadhouse, NY (WNEW-FM Simulcast, 6/12/1992) featuring a guest appearance of Blues Traveler’s John Popper. The mis-titled “Freeway” is exactly the same as the one on “Homebelly” and / or “Up For Grabs”, but it’s missing the segue into “Lady Kerosene”, but has a proper end. As this version is absolutely the same as the “Homebelly” version, I think the album segue was edited for this CD especially. But I may be wrong …
Two Princes (CD single)
Epic, 1992, Cat# 659031 2
1 Two Princes (Album Version) 4:16
2 Off My Line (Live) 5:30
3 Rosetta Stone 8:07
Both live tracks are from the “Homebelly” live album – the album’s segue WTII into Off My Line was just cut, the track on this single starts with the Off My Line riff immediately.
Two Princes (CD single US)
Epic, 1991, Cat# 659145 2
1 Two Princes
2 Intro – Yo Mama’s A Pajama
3 Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong
Track 2 and 3 recorded live at Wetlands, NYC, 27th September 1990. So these are the versions available on “Homebelly Groove … Live”.
Jimmy Olsen's Blues (7inch record single release)
Epic, 1991, Cat# 35-74929
A-Side: Jimmy Olsen’s Blues 4:35
B-Side: Yo Mama’s A Pajama 4:06
“Yo Mama’s” is credited as “taken from Homebelly Groove” on this rare 7inch release.
How Could You Want Him (When You Know You Could Have Me?) (7inch record single release)
Epic, 1991, Cat# 35-74910
A-Side: How Could You Want Him (When You Know You Could Have Me?) 4:58
B-Side: Hard To Exist 4:30
This is the only release including a not-segueing “Hard To Exist” studio version, later released on the PFOK 20th anniversary edition (see Albums section for details).
