Todd Horton wrote the following about his guest appearance on his Facebook page:
“I’ll try not to go on and on… but I love these guys. To invite me up, knowing what I’ve been going through with my heart and health, not being able to play for so long… that’s the mark of true friendship. Thirty plus years of it. They’ve always been there for me at the right moments, too. It was a very emotional night for me and I’m still feeling it today. Plus, hearing these guys still killing it, better than ever (whoa!!) was a huge boost for my soul, never mind sharing the stage with them on the classic “Forty or Fifty”. Just still such an awesome band (with yet another great record coming out soon!!).
I was super anxious about playing for the first time in seven months in front of a lot of people. I only picked up the horn for a few minutes a couple of days ago. So it was anyone’s guess what would happen. Honestly, it was a struggle. But like always they had my back so it turned out just fine. My heart is only half functioning, at best, and I’m at a high risk for sudden cardiac arrest now so I was glad to see an emergency services truck parked near the stage! Thankfully I didn’t need it. A little dizzy for a while after but otherwise fine. Not sure I would have made it through a second song though.
The latest health news is that my heart isn’t likely to recover more than it has. There’s too much damage. So, I’m stuck with what I got plus some new diagnoses added to the mix. I’ll be having surgery to implant a defibrillator on July 10 and will be out of commission again for a while. I’m really glad I got to perform again.
Big love and thanks to the boys.”
